Differentiation is required. I recommend selecting three total skills for each section. It will simplify the differentiation aspect.

B.  Differentiate between a leadership and a management mindset by doing the following:

1a.  Differentiate three leadership skills from three management skills present in yourself.

1b.  Differentiate three leadership skills from three management skills absent in yourself.

1bi.  Describe how you can improve upon the three leadership skills from part B1a, including an example for each.

 

B1a & B1b. Differentiation is required. I recommend selecting three total skills for each section. Then, provide examples of how each skill would be used in the role of a leader and a manager. You do not need to relate these skills to your work; you just need to identify the skills, then state how each skill is used in the role of leader & manager.

 

Example of Differentiation (don’t use these):

Motivation

·         A leader would use motivation to energize the team towards common goals & build individual drive among their peers by making them feel valued and supported.

·         A manager would use motivation differently to encourage employees to do their best work and inspire the team to meet their individual performance goals within the organization.

Collaboration

·         A leader would use collaboration to open communication between the team, receive input and feedback, and actively listen to others to make them feel valued and an essential member of the group.

·         A manager would use collaboration differently to gain input from executives and staff, so all parties work together and share information to support the organization’s goals and unit objectives.

B1bi. Include a discussion on how you will continue to improve and build upon your present skills from B1a, not the absent skills from B1b. Think of this as an ongoing improvement project and how you will hone in on each skill to be the best you can be. These could be actions such as working with a mentor, practicing mindfulness, joining a committee, etc.
