Say for instance a clinical grad program was very “serious,” as well as the therapy training being also quite serious and stern.  The first few years of training were in-house at the university’s psych clinic, so a student is placed in their first “community” mental health clinic,  The student was shocked when they heard the therapist in the next office — an older, clinical social worker — laughing with one of this clients!!   :^o

Later that day,  the student asked him, “Hey, I heard you laughing with your client … what’s up with that?!” and he looked at the student like they was from Mars.  “Uh, we’re allowed to laugh with our clients,” he said, and the student replied, “Wha?!?!?  We are?!?!?!”  Again, he thought the student was nuts.

This work can certainly be “delicate,” but what do you think that actually looks like?!  Who was right in my story: the laughing social worker, or the stern psychologists, and why?!
